Celebrating Twenty Years of Gamelan in New Mexico!

Mark the date to celebrate Gamelan Encantada’s 20th Anniversary!  Sunday, July 10th, we will be performing at the Outpost Performance Space, 210 Yale Avenue SE in honor of the release of "OASIS IN THE DESERT: New Music from New Mexico"—a full-length CD of contemporary pieces commissioned by the ensemble (since its inception in 1991) from local composers, including works by Daniel Davis, Steve Peters, Joseph Weber and Beth Yip.  For more information on this event (or to order an advance copy of the CD), contact Jenny at 242-6198 or email jenny@gamelanencantada.net. 

On Tuesday night, July 5th, Gamelan Encantada will be performing outdoors as part of the Parkland Hills Neighborhood Association’s “Music Under the Dome” series, at the Whittier Community Center, located in the SE Heights, at the intersection of Kathryn and Quincy.  This free event starts at 6:30 pm and will run until 8:30 pm, so bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the sounds of the gamelan floating through the cool summer air!  For more information on this event, please contact organizer Christopher Gibson at 505-792-2995 or email gchristopher36@qwest.net.

On Saturday, July 16th, members of the ensemble will be performing Balinese Gamelan Selonding at a fundraiser for the New Mexico Asian Family Center.  For more details about this event, call Kay Bounkeua at 934-5139 (kay@nmasianfamilycenter.org).
